We ALL believe in something
At Antioch Family Church, we embrace everyone with grace, knowing that we are all on our own journey of discovering God. Your journey is probably different than mine, and so in order to work together for the common good, we practice these three simple principles in our beliefs:
In essential beliefs - we have UNITY
The Church of the Nazarene has only 16 Articles of Faith. On these essentials we will not compromise. These statements of faith are who we are. āThere is one Body and one Spirit...there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all...ā Ephesians 4:4-6 (NIV)
In non-essential beliefs - we practice LIBERTY
We believe that too many churches and Christians can be harsh and judgmental on so many issues that arenāt core to the faith. Here, there is room in the church family for a very diverse array of beliefs, as long as they do not conflict with the āessentialsā. āAccept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters...Who are you to judge someone elseās servant? To his own master he stands or falls...So then each of us will give an account of himself to God...So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.ā Romans 14:1, 4:12, 22 (NIV)
In all our beliefs - we show Love
Antioch Family Church is all about love. We have experienced Godās love for us, and it is our calling to show and be love to others. ā...If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains - but have no love. I amount to nothing at all.ā 1 Corinthians. 13:2 (PH)
What we believe
These are the foundational truths which we embrace as truth:
1. We believe in one externally existent God who has expressed himself in personal ways. As God, He is Triune in essential being, revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
2. We believe the Bible communicates Godās saving message and is our reliable authority in all matters related to faith and Christian living.
3. We believe that all humankind struggles with a downward pull that leads us to sin, or make choices that oppose Godās best.
4. We believe that unless we experience Godās help and salvation through a faith commitment to Jesus Christ, our future is one of eternal separation from God and all that is good.
5. We believe the love and grace of God is extended to every person in the provision Jesus Christ made in his death and resurrection. By turning from our own selfishness and trusting Jesus Christ, we experience a new life, being freed from the old patterns of self-destructive acts called sin.
6. We believe our new life in Jesus Christ is the gateway to transformation. Following our step of faith in Jesus, we believe there is another step of faith in which we present our life completely to Christ in order to live under his authority and to experience his transforming power.
7. We believe that the Christian experience is more than a change of mind. It is a change of heart and attitude. It is accompanied by assurance that is grounded in both the Scriptures as well as the inner witness of Godās Spirit.
8. We believe that all who live for Jesus Christ have an eternal future. Our belief in such a future includes both the fulfillment of Godās creative purpose as well as the accountability of all persons endowed with the power of choice.
